Here's a new Rocket Fuel web-only contest and it's one you can't miss. I'm giving away 10 copies of the brand spankin' new CD Kill Surf City by the great California band The Atom Age.    Here's how you can win: be one of the first ten people to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  with the subject "Atom Man is Who I Am", and the CD is yours.  It's that easy.

On the latest episode (#35) of Rocket Fuel, I reviewed this amazing record.  Here's what I said about it:

Have you ever read about a band and they describe their sound as the combination of two or three other bands and thought to yourself, man if they could pull off they would be amazing?  Sure, we all have.  And that is exactly the thought that ran through my head when I was reading the interview in issue #41 of AMP Magazine with the California band The Atom Age.  My eyes grew to the size of hubcaps when I saw the band’s music described as Rocket From The Crypt meets MU330 and Voodoo Glow Skulls.  I’m a big fan of those bands, especially Rocket From The Crypt.  Heck, I even named this very podcast after an MU330 song.  With high expectations, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their debut Kill Surf City to see if it lived up to that almost unthinkable mashup.

From the first notes of Kill Surf City’s opener “Turn It Around” a giant smile came across my face to match my hubcap sized eyes, and that smiled remained throughout the entire 14 track, 45 minute record.  For the most part, this unthinkable mashup was realized, especially the references to Rocket From The Crypt and Voodoo Glow Skulls.  The Atom Age call their tunes "21st Century Rock n' Roll" and that is exactly what they sound like, complete with a horn section of one, tenor sax player Brendan the Human Power Drill.  For you ska haters out there, don’t worry.  Although this band may have be influenced by ska, they are a straight up punk and rock n' roll hurricane and you better seek cover!

As I listened to Kill Surf City over and over again, there is one thing that I just couldn't believe, and that this is their debut album.  There are absolutely no filler songs on the record, and each song flows into the next with sounding repetitive.  From “Turn it Around” to a more punk sounding “Atom Man” to the groovy sounds of the title track, The Atom Age have assembled a consistent, bold and well executed record that flat out rocks from beginning to end.

On the Rocket Fuel gauge for reviews a zero being that the album is out of gas, a five being that the tank if half full or average and a ten being that the album is full of gas and ready to blast off, I give Kill Surf City by The Atom Age a nine.  Do yourself a favor and get your hands and ears on this record as soon as humanly possible.

Well, here's your chance to get this record, so be sure to get your entry in now!
